Yoshiko is different; different to the point he feels existance is really quite pointless. Last to breathe fire, clumsy and with strange colourings he acquires a hoard of tormentors. Life seems so much more difficult for him: trying to fit in, trying to hide a secret about himself.
But all that is about to change when he meets Guya, an elder and a recluse who knows things that no-one else in Dragor does and about places and people Yoshiko never dreamed existed. A courageous mission exists if Yoshiko can pass the trials that Guya sets – tasks that will require wisdom, fitness and the upmost bravery!
‘The Gift of Charms’ is first in the Land of Dragor epic fantasy adventure series. Dragor is a place of magic and mystery; bursting with adventure, quests and many secrets untold…
Are You A School? Book Julia For An Author Visit
The Society of Authors report into Author Visits in Schools has found that 99.4% (all those who had organised an author visit) considered author visits to be an invaluable enrichment that encouraged reading for pleasure, wider reading and creative writing. Visits are described as having ‘a profound and lasting impact’. All pupils were positively engaged including (and particularly) reluctant readers and those with Special Educational Needs. Teachers also detailed the benefit to their own teaching skills. They are also recommending for example, that author visits should be recognised by OfSTED and that each school should have its own library and trained staff member. In the survey, many teachers reported a long-tail positive effect on children’s reading and a rise in library loans after an author visit; regular events would help to maintain a high level of interest and a wider diversity of reading.
“Julia has a flair for sharing her stories with children. She is now our Patron of Reading and has visited the school on a number of occasions, to speak to students about the wonderful world of dragons she has created in “Gift of Charms”. From Gifted and talented students, through to our most challenging Year 10, Julia engaged their imaginations and inspired creative writing.” – Helen Emery Library Manager, King Edward VI School
“The children at the book club loved Julia’s visit. Julia is spontaneous with such a delightful manner that holds everyone’s attention as she discusses the magical Land of Dragor. We very much look forward to her visiting again.” – Janet Hill Gibbs Manager Samuel Johnson -National Heritage Museum
